The Spinifex Hotel was first constructed under the name The Club Hotel. Without realising it, Derby was building a hotel that would remain a meeting place for the community for years to come.

The Spinifex Hotel has been a jewel in Derby’s crown since the 1880s, located approximately two hours north-east of Broome in Western Australian’s North West.
It’s a meeting point that has weathered generations, braved cyclones, and provided accommodation for travellers from all over the world. Rebuilt in 2011, the hotel now offers a fresh, modern experience for everyone stepping foot inside.
A place to stay on business, a place for tour groups to congregate, and a space where you can enjoy a drink and a meal any day of the week. Guests can enjoy our upmarket restaurant and bar, outdoor alfresco dining, and a family-friendly playground – all designed to make your time in Derby memorable.
As a nod to our heritage, the walls are lined with historic photographs, showcasing the pub throughout the years.

The pool was installed, creating a much-needed option for weary travellers and guests to cool off after a hot Kimberley day.
The bulk of the hotel was knocked down and refurbished, bringing it into a new era.
The Spinifex Hotel was bought by Swan Brewery. With increased popularity, it became a community hub for the famous Boxing Day Sports, which featured unique events such as frog races, cockroach races, stubby sucking, and jelly eating.
The Spinifex Hotel reverted back to independent ownership.
The hotel’s roof blew off in a storm causing widespread damage. This was quickly replaced and the hotel continued trading.
Spinifex Hotel came under new ownership. This saw an updating of the rooms and amenities, refreshing and revitalising the space while maintaining its old-world charm. The bar and restaurant remained open during this time to honour its heritage.
The Spinifex Hotel remains the oldest pub in Derby, and still continues to offer up good food, cold drinks, and comfortable accommodation to locals and travellers. We can’t wait to see where the next 120 years take us.
